Our client are specialists in their industry sector; they are now looking to recruit a Transport Planning Manager on a permanent basis.
The job you’ll do
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Group Transport Planning Manager, reporting to the Group Transport Manager.
The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday and the core hours will be 06.00 to 16.00.
There must be a degree of flexibility to meet customer needs/timescales. You will be responsible for ensuring our transport resources run effectively and efficiently, operating with various types of vehicles and trailers.
Other main responsibilities will include the planning and routing of trucks to meet overall haulage demands, vehicle compliance and the leadership of all logistics-related staff.
Responsibilities:-
Transport Planning
Develop and implement effective transport plans to meet customer delivery requirements across all pallets and packaging sites in the group.
Optimise vehicle routing and scheduling for maximum efficiency, cost-effectiveness and minimising dead miles.
Monitor and reactively adjust transport plans to respond to changes in demand or unforeseen circumstances.
Fleet Management
Coordinate vehicle allocation and utilisation to support daily haulage operations.
Liaise with third-party maintenance providers to ensure vehicles are properly maintained and serviced within schedule.
Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, maintenance schedules, and compliance documentation.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure all operations comply with current legislation, including health & safety and environmental regulations.
Keep up to date with transport law and best practice within the haulage industry.
Communication and Coordination
Act as the primary contact between drivers and customers to facilitate smooth operations.
Discover, develop, and maintain new business relationships with customers.
Provide drivers with clear instructions on routes, schedules, and delivery requirements.
Promptly address delays or issues, maintaining high levels of customer service.
Continuous Improvement
Monitor KPIs and generate reports on key areas such as fuel usage, idling and operational efficiency.
Identify areas for process improvement and implement strategies to enhance performance.
Contribute to operational improvement initiatives and cost-reduction strategies.
About You
Previous experience as Transport Planning Manager.
CPC and valid driving licence.
Proven experience in transport planning, particularly within the general haulage sector.
Strong understanding of transport regulations and compliance obligations.
Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
Proficiency in transport planning or fleet management software.
Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and fleet operations is advantageous.
Applicants must have the ability to communicate in English as well as comprehend written instructions.
You must be able to prove that you are eligible to work in the UK without the need for sponsorship.
