The Job You’ll be Doing;
Line management responsibility of a designated Co-ordinator and / or Assistant, allocating and quality checking work, addressing issues promptly and ensuring adequate training and support is in place.
Primary point of contact for designated areas across the business, responsible for the provision of a high quality service which ensures the mitigation of risks, a consistent approach is taken, proactive implementation of business focused solutions and consideration of any potential employment risks.
Deliver a timely and responsive ER service to managers when dealing with day-to-day case management and issues such as probation, attendance management, investigations, disciplinary, grievance, performance improvement, appeals, and business reorganisations / restructures and TUPE transfers.
Provide advice, guidance and support to managers ensuring compliance with professional standards, organisational policies and procedures, and current employment legislation.
Provide managers with support at formal ER meetings, including all preparatory work and drafting of relevant documents and correspondence.
Maintain the ER tracker ensuring all case details are current and provide sufficient information, escalating concerns to the Employee Relations and Compliance Manager where necessary.
Build strong professional relationships with managers and trade union representatives to aid the effective management and prompt de-escalation of issues and cases wherever possible, and to enable the delivery of key people priorities and goals.
Attend all relevant departmental / meetings and work collaboratively with managers to fully understand their individual requirements associated with workforce planning and succession planning, supporting them with career conversations to identify gaps, training / development needs, high potential and strategies to successfully recruit and retain talent.
Develop resources and deliver people related training and on the job coaching with managers to uplift capability, develop knowledge and skills, and to encourage accountability and ownership which will support the development of a high-performance culture.
Deliver people induction sessions for new and (if required) promoted colleagues, providing them with helpful need-to-know information that will assist them and improve the employee experience.
Develop content and maintain training materials, manager user guides and additional resources to support compliance with all people related processes.
Contribute to the development of new and updated People & Culture polices that promote, steer and underpin the Services vision, values and culture and are in line with business need, good practice and employment legislation .
Ensure the consistent application of the Services pay and grading structures, and appropriate utilisation of our job evaluation system, to reduce risks associated with equal pay and equal value claims, escalating concerns to the Employee Relations and Compliance Manager where necessary.
Monitor, analyse and share people related data and trends, to support evidence based decision making and to identify trends and improvement plans.
Participate in all relevant People and Culture activities as requested by the Employee Relations and Compliance Manager.
Be responsible for maintaining your own continuous professional development and knowledge of good practice through local and national networking, attendance at internal and external training courses, and other developmental activities as required.
About You;
Level 5 qualification in HR related subject, or substantial work experience relevant to the role.
Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
Member of CIPD (or willing to work towards obtaining membership if required).
Experience of delivering a high quality customer focused HR service, providing advice, guidance and support and challenging the status quo where required.
Significant experience of dealing with a range of sensitive and complex ER cases, using a risk-based approach and ensuring compliance with internal policy and current legislation.
Experience of supporting the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
Experience of developing content and delivering training to staff and managers to share knowledge and uplift capability.
Experience of analysing and interpreting people management data and information to identify issues, trends, and areas for improvement / action.
Experience of supervising / line managing individuals.
Experience of working in a heavily unionised environment with exposure to Industrial Relation matters.
