The Job you will do:

  • The Senior NPD Technologist will manage the day to day running of the NPD department.

  • Guiding all new product developments from concept through to launch and ensuring they are safe, legal, and to the customers’ requirements/expectations.

  • It will also be a part of developing the manufacturing processes and building effective relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and customers.

  • Manage and develop the R&D Technologist and Specification Technologist.

  • Manage and maintain production documentation for all products, including controlling the pallet and case label process.

  • Review and approve new product artworks as required.

  • Set up and adapt new recipes to fit factory requirements ready for launch.

  • Deputise for the Head of NPD when required.

  • Work with the Head of NPD to develop new recipes both inhouse and with flavour houses to fit customer briefs, including presenting completed developments to customers.

  • Write finished product specifications as required.

  • Liaise with all internal departments during the product development process.

  • Coordinate and manage product trials and first productions.

  • Gather and review production data for continuous improvement.

  • Attend customer and supplier meetings as required and assist with any queries and/or projects.

  • Assist with the supplier and raw material approval process where necessary.

  • Always work in compliance to the BRC standard.

  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation.

  • Be an active member of the HACCP team.

  • Flexibility to travel as and when required.

  • Always promote a culture of cooperation with regards to health and safety and lead by good example.

  • Use safety PPE where necessary, report missing or damaged items.

  • Follow procedures and risk assessments, action non-compliance immediately and follow up on any corrective action.

  • Follow COSHH (control of substances hazardous to health) regulations on the correct usage of all chemicals.

  • Complete risk assessments for visitors and contractors, as and when required.

  • Follow and lead by example to ensure all site hygiene rules are maintained.

  • Always ensure full traceability and food contact compliance is adhered to.

About you:

  • 3+ years’ experience in a development role

  • Level 4 HACCP and Level 4 Food Safety within Manufacturing qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Be able to prioritize where applicable and work to deadlines.

  • A good knowledge of the manufacturing process.

  • Knowledge of food safety regulations including HACCP and BRC requirements

  • Ability to use specification systems and software for managing technical documents.

  • Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal departments.

  • Provide technical support to enable the business to meet food safety, legality, and specific customer requirements.
