Company Description


This rare opportunity has arisen with our outstanding Tyne and Wear based engineering company. They are now looking for a motivated Quality Manager who is looking to grasp an outstanding career opportunity, and help their business grow and improve.
As a member of the Quality Management Team your role is to apply the principles of TQM and continuous improvement in the plant in accordance with the quality policies shared with Quality Management and Plant Management. Working proactively with the UK Quality Director and Site Management Team you will develop and manage an action plan that will enable the organisation to achieve agreed the quality objectives. You will work closely with all areas of the business to ensure that customer’s quality requirements are achieved in both an efficient and cost-effective manner without compromising delivery performance.

The Role

  • Main duties (note: in addition to these functions, employees are required to carry out other duties as may reasonably be required):
  • Coordinate the annual issue of the management review
  • Prepare KPI’s and generate monthly quality report
  • Management of calibration system
  • Manage and co-ordinate quality assurance function in close co-operation with the customer(s) and the company’s Management Team
  • To promote, with the heads of the departments, actions for the continuous improvement of the product and process quality indicators, increasing the skills of the workers in identifying the root causes inherent to the qualitative aspects through the use of quality tools and problem-solving methodologies
  • Analysis of qualitative data and formulation of proposals for improvement
  • Contribute to the implementation of Quality in the Production Launch phase and guarantee it in the Production start-up phase;
  • Ensure that only products conforming to the specifications are manufactured, stopping production and/or shipment where appropriate particularly where there is potential risk to the customer
  • Assure the analysis of the products returned by the client, the identification and implementation within the departments of corrective actions and the drafting of the response reports (8D model and analysis sheet);
  • Assess customer product specifications and validate the company’s process capability ensuring specification can be met.
  • Management of Corrective Action process ensuring:
  • Responses are provided within the agreed timeframe
  • Robust containment and permanent corrective actions are implemented
  • Systemic failures identified and effective counter measures implemented
  • Supplier portal (quality) – monitor and manage effectively
  • Management of PPAP documentation in accordance with customer requirements
  • Working together with project leaders to discuss solutions to quality issues using relevant quality tools and making sure managers and other staff understand how to improve the business
  • Monitor performance by gathering relevant data and producing statistical reports
  • Develop and implement changes that reduce COPQ (reduce waste and increase efficiency)
  • Analysis of customer warranty claims
  • Support business activities with customer and supplier visits
  • Working with purchasing staff to establish quality requirements from external suppliers
  • Support cultural change – challenge current state and encourage employees to be pro-active in identifying and addressing quality related problems.
  • Implement improvements to production processes that lead to overall increases in product quality
  • Application of core tools
  • Ensure that all new staff are inducted into the requirements of the QMS related to their own roles and responsibilities and provide update training as necessary.
  • Maintain skills matrix, identify gaps, develop training plans and conduct annual assessments for Quality team

The Person

  • Bachelor’s Degree or HNC in Engineering discipline
  • Tier 1 Automotive or similar related industry sector.
  • A good knowledge and understanding of quality requirements for an IATF16949 certified organisation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Specialist training required - desirable: Quality Auditing (IATF16949 preferred)
